Why does my Garmin say "Map data unavailable?"
Even with the TrailIntel map properly installed, you can sometimes encounter this message if not properly utilized.
If you attempt to create a route and receive a message that says "Map data unavailable", this likely means you are attempting to make a route that does not exist.
- To properly create routes without errors, your starting location and ending destination must both be physically on the trail.
- You cannot enter a street address into the unit, you must select a destination from the map, saved waypoints, or preloaded POI.
If you are not physically near trails but want to plan routes for future reference, you can do so through the TrailIntel web app on your computer, the Route Planner app on the Garmin, or through GPS Simulator mode on the Garmin.
