How do I track my ride on my Garmin GPS?
Trip recording, or "breadcrumb tracking", is an easy way to record your trips to save, view, share, and plan your next rides!
It’s easy to record, or “breadcrumb track” your ride on the trails with a Garmin GPS. This feature is useful for many applications; it makes it easy to follow your track to take the same route back to where you began, share fun rides with your friends, or save them to travel again later.
On many new Tread, zumo, and Montana units, there is a built in Track Recorder app, where you can view, pause, save, and organize your tracks. This will be visible on the home screen of your device, or in the Apps menu.
Many units will automatically record your ride as you begin each trip. On most automotive style units (Drive, DriveSmart, older zumo units, nuvi) the device will automatically record everywhere you go once the device powers on, and save a track for each day that you travel. The tracks will then be organized in the device by date.
To view these tracks on the map, you will need to enable Trip Log or Travel History in Map Layers.
- Go to Settings
- Go to Map Display or Map and Vehicle
- Go to Map Layers
- Enable "Trip Log" or "Travel History"
Then, in the “Where I’ve Been” app (on automotive style units) or the Tracks menu, you can view everything that has been recorded on the device sorted by day.
To share these tracks with your friends, you can connect the device to the computer, and browse to the GPX folder in the internal storage. There, your track files will be saved by date and any applicable names will be attached.
If you encounter any changes while out on your tracked ride, feel free to send them in GPX format to us at support@trailintel.com so we can update our trails!
